CME Seminar
Jewish Hospital Hank Wagner Conference Center
With advances in laparoscopic surgery, the area of solid organ tumors is the last challenge to hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. Over the last two decades we have recognized the benefits of minimally invasive surgery including decreased hospital stay, and minimized postoperative disability.
This course focuses on laparoscopic hepatic resection, radiofrequency ablation and pancreatic resection. We have added new and evolving techniques including single access surgery and robotic HPB surgery. Our faculty is comprised of world leaders in transplantation, hepatopancreatobiliary surgery and surgical oncology.
This conference is designed to discuss, examine and trial all modalities utilized in laparoscopic hepatic, biliary and pancreas surgery.
Course Objectives • Understand the current indications for laparoscopic approaches to HPB surgery. • Summarize evolving techniques in thermal ablation for normal and cirrhotic liver tumors; including RF, microwave and electroporation. • Contrast techniques in laparoscopic hepatic resection including thermal energy and stapler utilization. • Understand techniques in laparoscopic resection of the pancreas: whipple procedure, distal pancreatectomy, and distal pancreatectomy with splenic preservation. • Review areas of caution (cirrhotic liver, impaired patient, and the obese) in laparoscopic liver resection. • Review recent advances in the techniques for hepatic resection including robotics and pancreatic biliary single access surgery. • Comprehend the management of complications and emergent vascular control in laparoscopic approaches to HPB surgery.
