8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center
Program Speaker: Deborah Tuggle, RN, MN, CCNS
Too often, managing patients in shock ends up being an over-simplified, rote exercise in cranking up a drug until a predetermined blood pressure is achieved. However, shock is not about pressure, but perfusion, and sometimes our “therapy” can thwart the very blood flow we are trying to promote. This session is designed to help the critical care nurse identify the three types of shock and to apply the evidenced-based recommendations for the titration of fluids and cardiotonic or vasoactive drug infusions.
