Joint Pain? Our Bone and Joint Center Can Help

Hip and knee joints enable us to bend, squat, pivot and stride with ease — until an injury or wear and tear start to slow us down. The cause? Often, it’s damage to the cushioning and lubrication that help healthy bones glide smoothly over each other. Once these are lost, hip and knee problems can occur. Then, when bone meets bone, the result is pain and increased damage to the joint.

Fortunately, joint replacement surgery can eliminate pain and restore mobility for these people. What’s more, the technology and surgical expertise surrounding total hip and knee replacement continue to evolve. “For those who truly need it, the surgery is a life-changing event,” said Wanda Moore, executive director of surgical services.

The Bone and Joint Center at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital encourages patients to complete a pre-joint class taught by orthopaedic nurses. This class prepares the patient for every stage of the joint replacement, from pre- to post-surgery. After the procedure, patients stay in the Bone and Joint Center, a dedicated orthopaedic unit with private rooms and a rehab clinic.

The Bone and Joint Center teaches joint replacement candidates what to expect before, during and after surgery. Learn more about our services by calling (502) 363-7930.
