5/4/2009 The Larosa Loop Ride and Walk Saturday, May 30, 2009
Who: The “Larosa Loop Bicycle Ride, Walk and Roll,” a non-competitive event on the Louisville downtown Waterfront park, hosted by Frazier Rehab Institute. What: The Larosa Loop Bicycle Ride, Walk and Roll honors the memory of Physiatrist Dr. Ethel Larosa-Klemens who lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 37. The event benefits the Ethel Larosa Fund for a scholarship for a female medical student who is interested in pediatrics or physiatry; and to maintain and improve the Larosa Lounge, a pediatric recreational space at Frazier Rehab Institute. Participants can choose between the 10-mile or 25-mile bike ride or a one, three and five mile walk, run or roll. This is an event for both children and adults. The cost of the event is a $25 donation per group of four. Registration includes a t-shirt, lunch and family activities. Family activities will begin after the bicycle ride/walk/roll (approximately 11 a.m.). Activities include a live band; inflatable bounces, food including BBQ, popcorn, snow cones and more; and additional games for the entire family to enjoy. The bicycle ride crosses the Second Street Bridge, proceeds east along the waterfront in Jeffersonville, continues up river to Utica and returns to Waterfront Park. The ride is scenic and flat for beginning or advanced riders.The walk and roll will remain within the downtown Louisville’s Waterfront Park area. When: Saturday, May 30, 2009 Where: Downtown Louisville’s Waterfront Park, near the Louisville Rowing Club Louisville, Kentucky Why: To honor Dr. Ethel Larosa and continue to support her passion to care for children at Frazier Rehab Institute and Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital. Dr. Larosa was a pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation physician who passed away on October 26, 2006 after a 15-month battle with cancer. She was a member of the American Medical Society, Kentucky Medical Society, Greater Louisville Medical Society, Executive Committee of Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, Adopt-a-Student Pilot Program, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Medical Advisory Committee at the Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs and Filipino-American Society.
