Dr. Briones-Pryor Accepts Medical Director Position for the HIPS program

at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital


Valerie Briones-Pryor, M.D., Internist, with The Physician Group at Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare has accepted the role of Director for the Hospitalist Program (HIPS) at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital (SMEH), effective July 1, 2009.

Dr. Briones-Pryor will report directly to Tom Gessel, president & CEO of Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, a service of Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare (JHSMH), as a member of the hospital’s administrative team, providing full-time leadership to the hospitalist program and to the inpatient physicians.  She will be responsible for oversight of the operations and staffing of the program, and for developing actions to maintain the highest standards in patient care. This appointment is a critical step in advancing the quality, safety and service goals of the hospital.

Dr. Briones-Pryor has been in practice four years with Jefferson Medical Associates, a part of The Physician Group at Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare.  She graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency from Indiana University.  Dr. Briones-Pryor is experienced in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of virtually all of the medical conditions that commonly arise from early adulthood through the geriatric years.  She currently serves as Medical Staff Vice-President for SMEH and Our Lady of Peace, and serves as a member of the JHSMH Medical Executive Committee.  Dr. Briones-Pryor is a past chair of the SMEH Department of Medicine.
