Habitat for Humanity House Dedication for Family Saturday, July 25 at 1 p.m.

Habitat for Humanity will dedicate a home for another needy family - Joy Leavell and her son.  The home is co-sponsored by Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare (JHSMH), Harshaw Trane and ECT Services.

Hundreds of volunteers from Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare, Harshaw Trane, and ECT Services have been pulling together for the past six months to rehab a house stripping it down to the foundation and then rebuilding the studs and walls.  The three companies have been working weekends since February 7th to rebuild the home for a needy family.

The new homeowner, Joy Leavell, was pre-selected by the local Habitat for Humanity organization and has volunteered more the 400 community service hours herself.  Leavell said, “I am so thankful for all the volunteers who have helped to build my new home.  I want to especially thank Habitat for helping me to grow and teaching me how to budget my money so that I can make a better life for my son.”

Leavell is a unit secretary at Jewish Hospital.  Her son, Jashawn, is age three.

Habitat for Humanity House Family Nurture Committee Volunteer and Leavell’s advocate, Gigi Kopas said, “Joy’s name reflects the way she welcomed the home builder volunteers each weekend.  She brought joy to the volunteers with her outgoing personality.  In return, she received the volunteers best spirits, personalities, smiles and happy faces and on July 25th, the completion of her new home.”
